filmmaker-choreologist

I trained at Mountway School of Dancing, Taunton with Miss Gray and Verity Snell, was a member of Taunton Youth Dance Company, Swindon Centre of Advance Training, Somerset County Youth Dance Company and attended classes at The Place. I graduated from TrinityLaban with a first class honours in 2013 and have just completed my MRes Dance at Plymouth University, awaiting ratification of my distinction grade. My research explored the relationship between dance and music and developed a choreological choreographic process whereby music and dance are generated together. The resulting piece formed part of my practice as research thesis and will be developed further in preparation for Resolution 2015.

Whilst pursuing all opportunities to develop as a dance artist my roots are based in the southwest and I am actively teaching, creating and dancing in site specific works and films across Somerset.

As part of Youth Dance England’s (2010) Young Creatives I was mentored by Darren Ellis and developed my work ‘Conflict’ a film with a live solo performance which was performed at the Royal Opera House, Linbury Studio. This work featured music composed by myself and this signalled the start of my emerging dance practice; as choreographer-composer.

As a Somerset ambassador for Regional Young Dancers Network Forum (2010) and an Inquiring Minds Participant, Dance Southwest (2011) I had the opportunity to develop my skills as a choreographer and leader. In 2012 I undertook work experience with Youth Dance England, working in organisational office roles and back stage at U.Dance at Royal Festival Hall. These experiences allowed me to strengthen existing connections whilst also giving me insight into youth dance practice and choreography from across the country.

In 2013 I founded FlickerrDance Company. The company explores a blend of science and contemporary dance along with choreology, film and original music composition. Unique to my work is my self-collaboration as both choreographer and composer. FlickerrDance Company aims to deliver youth and professional workshops to disseminate my MRes research into music and dance relationships; help educate, train and increase awareness in how choreographers, dancers and composers relate musically and, in choreological practice.

As part of Taunton Youth Dance Company co-investment project with the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre and Dance Southwest I created a piece, in collaboration, to tour Somerset schools in 2013.This wonderful opportunity was my first professional job and I successfully raised sponsorship from TrinityLaban and Richard Huish College in Taunton where I studied for my A levels. In July I worked in Hedemora, Sweden as a dancer in fREak residency and currently am a trainee teacher at Mountway School of Dancing.

I continue my professional development by attending workshops and am completing my second year of the Specialist Diploma in Choreological Studies at TrinityLaban. I aim to embark on LRAD teacher training in 2015. To further my choreographic skills I have been selected for Young Choreographers Southwest residential at Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth in 2015

I am looking for opportunities to choreograph and provide workshops to youth and professional dancers across the southwest please contact me if you would be interesting in working with me.
